Hi, I’m Dr. Tina Vitolo, LCSW, DSW. A licensed clinical social worker, rebel educator, and founder of The Black Sheep Therapist®.
I’m known for empowering unconventional therapists to ethically and confidently integrate their “magic” into psychotherapy—without compromising their license, integrity, or the work that makes them exceptional.

The therapists I work with have witnessed profound healing and transformation, but translating that into ethical, clinically defensible language felt overwhelming to them. That is where my work comes in...
I help you take what you already know to be true in your bones and give it the structure, language, and grounding it needs to belong inside your clinical practice.
Your confidence skyrockets, and you feel empowered to help people heal in a way that honors your truth.

For years, I lived between two worlds.
Professionally, I stayed “safe.” Appropriate. Clinical. Small enough not to scare anyone. I was shutting off my soul Monday through Friday and then flipping it back on in time for the weekend. It was exhausting, and I was losing the very spark I was trying to light in other people.
Personally, I was intuitive, spiritual, sensitive, and deeply aware that there was more to healing than what I had been taught. I knew these gifts helped people. I had the research. I had the lived experience. And still, every time I tried to bring the spiritual or energetic side into the work, someone was ready to say:
“That’s unethical.”
“That’s not evidence based.”
“That doesn’t belong in therapy.”
And I just ... took it.

I felt like a sham. I had the highest degree possible and I still felt like an impostor. I was spiraling but I started to see the truth: The mental health system failed us and it’s failing the people we’re here to serve.
I saw incredible therapists bailing for coaching because they didn’t know how to do their work legally and ethically. Even after completing my doctorate and conducting research on complementary and alternative interventions in mental health, I still faced the same question:
How do I actually integrate spiritual and energy-based work into therapy, legally and ethically, without risking my license?
There were no clear answers.
Boards were vague.
Templates didn’t fit.
Colleagues were just as unsure.
I had enough.

I immersed myself in:
State statutes and administrative codes
Ethics standards across professions
Malpractice and liability interpretation
Clinical theory and scope of practice
I went all in:
I consulted malpractice attorneys.
I stress-tested my language.
I documented everything.
And eventually, I built what I could not find.
A clear, defensible framework that helped me translate integrative work into language boards, insurers, attorneys, and peers could understand, without stripping it of meaning.
Since then, I empower clinicians who don’t want to choose between clinical or being intuitive. Because you don't need to leave the field to do this work, and spiritual and energy-based work isn’t just possible. It’s powerful. And it’s time the world saw it that way.

I empower therapists directly inside
The Innovative Practitioner Accelerator®
A high-touch coaching program designed for unconventional therapists who are done hiding and ready to practice in full alignment. This is where I teach them how to ground their work in clinical theory, ethical documentation, informed consent, and regulatory language, with the support of clinicians and a community who actually get it.

and I also wrote
The Black Sheep
Therapist® Book
I wrote this book for every clinician who has ever felt too intuitive, too mystical, too different, or too much for this field. For the ones who swallowed their curiosity, dimmed their voices, and silenced themselves for safety. What if the part of you they told you to hide is what your clients need the most?

Looking for a different type of support?

Outside of work, much of my time is spent with my husband, John, and our growing toddler, Anthony, who keeps life adventurous, humbling, and full of laughter. Our family also includes three dogs, Gunner, Chibs, and Ash, who ensure there is never a quiet moment in the house.
When I have time for myself, I enjoy painting, getting out into nature, and dedicating time to personal and spiritual growth. Whether it’s a walk, time outdoors with my family, or simply stepping away from a screen, being in nature helps me reconnect and recharge.
I also serve on the boards of two nonprofit organizations, which allows me to contribute to causes I care deeply about while staying connected to the growth and advancement of the mental health profession.
One of my favorite creative projects right now is developing the Black Sheep Oracle, an oracle card deck designed to blend humor, insight, and self-reflection. Between raising a toddler, creating an oracle deck, spending time in nature, and chasing after three dogs, there is rarely a dull moment, and I genuinely love the season of life I’m in.
Let’s clear the noise, name what’s getting in the way, and find the next step toward a practice you can finally stand behind.
